Stretch of Wainui Road to close for two nights

Part of Wainui Road near Kāeo will close for two nights as a major slip site is investigated.

The road will be closed between 6pm and 6am on Monday 10 June and Tuesday 11 June along a stretch already reduced to single lane due to an active slip. A detour will be in place during the closure.

Wainui Road connects Whangaroa Road with popular beach destinations such as Tauranga Bay, Te Ngaere Bay, and Matauri Bay.

Engineers will carry out investigation and design work on three slips in the area over the next two weeks - two on Wainui Road and another on Wainui Road-Matauri Bay Road, near the Matauri Bay Lookout.

Signs advising motorists of the work will be installed before the section is closed.
