Resource consents

The Resource Management Act 1991 (RMA) requires local councils to ensure that effects of land use and subdivisions on the environment are managed sustainably. As a local government authority, District Councils are responsible for processing resource consent applications, assessing environmental effects, and making decisions on whether to grant or decline consent. The RMA and its relationship with District Councils play a crucial role in balancing economic, social, and environmental interests for sustainable resource management in New Zealand.
