**UPDATE 5.15pm 27 Feb**

Repairs have been completed on the wastewater pipe at Tokerau Beach. Regular sea water tests are being taken. Signs warning beachgoers not to swim or collect shellfish will remain at the northern end of the beach until Te Whatu Ora Health New Zealand confirms the tests show the beach is safe.

A collapsed pipe support at Whatuwhiwhi yesterday has resulted in a broken pipeline, causing wastewater to spill into a stream. The pipeline was located in dense bush.

The break was discovered last night (Monday 26 February) and was temporarily repaired by 10pm, halting any further spillage. Sucker trucks are now transferring waste away from the pipeline, and Far North Waters Alliance (FNW) team members are working to complete a permanent repair today and clean up affected areas.

FNW continue to investigate the cause of the asset failure causing the pipe to break, spilling an unknown quantity of wastewater into the stream.

Signs warning beachgoers not to swim or collect shellfish at the northern end of Tokerau Beach are being posted this morning. Local hapū, Northland Regional Council and Te Whatu Ora are also being advised of the spill.
