** UPDATE - Monday 26 February **

The bridge will now close from 6am Tuesday 27 February and reopen at 6am Friday 1 March (three days and nights). Pedestrian access to the bridge will also be affected during this time.

Urgent works to repair the one lane bridge on Landing Road in Kerikeri are due to start on Monday 26 February and will close the bridge for three days (and nights). The bridge will then reopen with stop/go traffic management in place while sealing works are completed on the bridge.

Commuters from Kapiro and heading to Kerikeri are warned that a significant detour will be in place during the works and to allow extra travel time. The bridge, which crosses a stream on Landing Road, will have its timber deck replaced, bridge beams cleaned and painted, and bearings greased. Once the new deck is installed, chip sealed will be applied to the road surface.

Large Variable Message Signs (VMS) boards will alert motorists travelling on Landing Road (from Kapiro towards Kerikeri) to divert to Kapiro Road, then State Highway 10. The detour could add 15 minutes to commuters’ travel time. Local school buses will also be affected and contractors are making local schools aware of the works and conducting a letter drop to residents.

During an annual bridge inspection last year, the need for a surface seal renewal was identified but the deterioration of the timber deck was not evident at that time. The subsequent deterioration of the timber deck was more rapid than expected, but difficulties sourcing specialist timber have meant only temporary fixes have been possible until now.

A 10kph speed limit is currently in place at the bridge until work begins.
