Te Hiku-based Te Rarawa have embarked on a project to digitise hundreds of historical documents and other taonga charting the cultural and legal history of the iwi.

The kaupapa is funded by the Ministry for Culture and Heritage, with on-going support from the Museum at Te Ahu and the council. Prompted by a need to safeguard documents and items that chart the challenges and triumphs of the iwi in recent decades, Te Rarawa has engaged NZMS, a business that specialises in cultural heritage imaging to develop software that captures and stores this history in digital form.
