Far North Youth Council

1. Overview

Young people see the world in a unique way. We want to hear what you think and how we can make the Far North a better place for rangatahi.

Applications are now open for the Far North Youth Council (FNYC). The FNYC has been running since 2016, and is a youth-led, youth development initiative.  Over 100 youth have represented their communities through this programme over the past 5 years.

Youth Councillors will get an opportunity to build their networks, be an advocate for Far North youth and upskill. Applications are open for youth aged 15-24yrs, from 14th April to 26th April.

There are 6 hui planned including one away trip to Wellington to attend the Festival for the Future. Meetings will be both face to face and online, and attendance at all hui is expected. The key dates are;

  • 13thMay Whakatau and Meeting One - Kaikohe, FACE TO FACE
  • 27th June Meeting Two - ONLINE
  • 30th July - 1st August attend Festival for the Future - Wellington, FACE TO FACE
  • 6th September Meeting Three - Kerikeri or Kaitaia, FACE TO FACE
  • 18th October Meeting Four - ONLINE
  • 29th November Meeting Five and end of year activity – FACE TO FACE
