Dogs and cats - Kuri me ngeru

We want to encourage responsible dog ownership. Taking good care of your dog includes keeping others safe and avoiding situations where your dog annoys, frightens or injures someone or another animal. Responsible dog owners register their dogs, have them micro-chipped and keep them under control in public spaces.

Go to the Dog Management Policy 2018 to find out where and when owners can exercise their dogs on or off-leash, and where dogs are prohibited. The council’s Dog Management Bylaw 2018 gives effect to the council’s Dog Management Policy 2018 and should be read in conjunction with this policy.
