Kaitāia Skatepark reopening is wheelie good news

Exciting improvements to ramp up the Kaitāia Skatepark will be unveiled tomorrow (Saturday, September 28), just in time for the school holidays.

The opening formalities kick off at 9.30am, led by John Paitai and Te Hiku Community Board Chair Adele Gardner. This will be followed by the "Shine on Kaitaia" fun day activities from 10am to noon with a BBQ, giveaways, and games.

The skatepark, at the corner of Matthews and Commerce Streets, has been upgraded in two stages. The existing skate bowl was refurbished first, followed by the addition of new skate elements.

Kaitāia skaters are set to enjoy the revitalised skatepark, which has proved to be a lively spot for skateboarding fans of all ages. Local contractor Dave Crabb of Circle-D Construction, a former professional skateboarder, was engaged to help with the concept designs. He has a strong background in skatepark design and has worked on successful projects like the Kerikeri Domain skatepark.

Stonecraft, a concrete construction specialist company based in Kaitāia, carried out the specialist concrete work.
