Candidate statement:

Independent & Open-Minded
Whiria Te Tangata – Weave Together the People
Kia ora, I live permanently near Kohukohu and originate from Manawatu.
I believe with the knowledge gained through my previous elected roles I can contribute significantly to Council in progressing our region forward in a more unified manner for all our people.
Kaikohe-Hokianga Ward needs an unbiased and impartial representative with no political or cultural baggage within this community.
My priorities include lobbying for self-governance, reintroducing development contributions, reducing the spiraling Council debt, questioning staffing levels, 1080 use, productive land loss to carbon farming, opposing enforcing fluoridation and membership of LGNZ.
I will champion local hemp production, utilisation of local wharves, upgrading wastewater and sewage systems, improved efficiencies around local roading, free Hokianga Ferry transport for locals, retention of Rawene Hospital services and support initiatives to increase Police, Ambulance and Fire Service staff numbers.
Peace and Love - MF

Candidate statement:

I’ve been privileged to serve as your Councillor since 2013.  I am Hokianga-born and live in Kaikohe. Elodie and I have been actively involved in business, community development and charitable projects in the District.  My passion is to see thriving communities assisted by effective local government delivering core services for less.  Local government that is accountable to its local communities through empowered community boards and communities.  Local people creating local solutions to local problems.  Improving governance and oversight, focusing on affordability, removing unnecessary bureaucracy and waste, and reducing administration overheads this term.  Seeking innovative, pragmatic, cost-effective, alternative ways to deliver services for less, by creating a can do culture, enabling policies and planning that make it easier to farm, do business, learn, work and play. Communities where people and families thrive.  I have the commitment, skills, experience, strategies, and vision.  With your support we can make it happen. FB@john4councilnz
