Dogs and cats - Kuri me ngeru

We want to encourage responsible dog ownership. That means taking good care of your dog. It also means keeping others safe around your dog and avoiding situations where it annoys, frightens or injures someone or another animal. Responsible dog owners register their dogs, have them micro-chipped and keep them under control in public spaces.

Refer to the Dog management Policy 2018 for information about where and when owners can exercise their dogs on or off leash, and where dogs are prohibited. Council’s Dog Management Bylaw 2018 gives effect to Council’s Dog Management Policy 2018 and should be read in conjunction with this Policy.
