Funding gets the ball rolling for sports travel this winter
More than $30,000 has been granted by the Far North’s three community boards to help young sports enthusiasts compete around the district.
The Winter Rural Travel fund will help 32 clubs and schools to attend training and competitions during the 2024 winter sports season.
The Rural Travel Fund, set up by Sport New Zealand, subsidises travel for tamariki and rangitahi aged between five and 18. The aim is to help remove the barrier of travel costs so participants can more easily compete in organised sporting events.
The fund covers travel to and from events, including competitions and practices within Northland. It has two funding rounds each year. It is part of the Active Aotearoa Programme and is administered by the Far North’s three community boards.
