Preliminary results give Tepania second term

Preliminary election results released today confirm that Moko Tepania has a comfortable lead over rivals for the top job as mayor of the Far North. That result is unlikely to change when special votes are counted and published later this week.
Preliminary results include all ballots returned up until the close of voting at midday yesterday, Saturday 11 October. They do not include special votes, which still need to be validated and counted. These will be included in the Final results, due to be released on Friday 17 October.
Today’s results give Moko Tepania 12052 votes compared to Ann Court on 7734 and Joshua Riley on 3609.
However, special votes may yet affect the outcome of some council and community board positions where candidates have a slim lead over their nearest rival.
Māori ward poll
Preliminary results have confirmed that the majority of Far North voters want to retain the Ngā Tai o Tokerau Māori Ward. Yesterday’s progressive results gave the retain camp a 1688-vote lead. Today’s Preliminary results have seen that margin increase to 2163.
