Free governance training for community organisations
Members of a trust, community board or community organisation are invited to participate in a free online training programme offering guidance on governance fundamentals, legal responsibilities, and how to create a positive board culture.
The two-part workshop series is hosted by LEAD, the Centre for Not-for-Profit Governance and Leadership., and are organised by Whangarei District Council in partnership with Kaipara and Far North district councils.
Sessions will be held online in early December and are open to trustees, board members and community organisation leaders who want to develop their governance skills.
The first workshop focuses on effective governance foundations, where workshop participants will increase their understanding of governance and management in the not-for-profit context; legal responsibilities of boards in Aotearoa; how to lead more effective meetings; and collective decision-making. The workshop will also touch on Māori models of governance and shared leadership.
The second session focuses on positive board culture, highlighting what makes a healthy and productive board, exploring the dynamics of trust and collaboration within a board, encouraging constructive participation and embedding values into governance practice.
Additional learning and governance resource materials will be provided after the sessions to continue growth beyond the workshops.
Those interested in taking part in the workshops are invited to register on the events page of the Whangarei District Council website. Registration for the workshops will be open until Sunday 23 November.
