Kawakawa indoor pool reopens

Kawakawa Community Pool reopened this week, three months after being closed for urgent maintenance.

Kawakawa Community Pool reopened this week, three months after being closed for urgent maintenance.

Work on the 25m indoor pool and building included maintenance to the roof structure, upgraded fire control and alert systems, upgraded lighting over the pool, and repainted lane markings and pool perimeter.

Kawakawa Community Pool is located within the Bay of Islands Recreation Centre at Bay of Islands College. It is owned by Sport Northland, although day-to-day pool operations are contracted to Kaitāia-based Community Business and Environment Centre (CBEC) in partnership with Australian pool management company Belgravia Leisure.

Far North District Council annually contributes towards maintenance of the pool. To help complete this urgent maintenance work, the council provided a three-year advance on its funding.

The pool is now back to normal opening hours, which is 6am to 7.30pm weekdays and 8am to 2pm on weekends. Go to the Bay of Islands Recreation Centre website to find out more.
