Roads and footpath issues
Is your request due to an after-hours emergency or urgent issue?
Call our after-hours service on 0800 920 029. We will respond to issues reported online outside of our business hours on the next working day.
Urgent issues include a slip across the road, an impassable road, or any other safety issues.
This includes sealed and unsealed roads for issues such as:
- potholes - these are holes in the road surface. Unsafe potholes are those which could cause harm to a road user
- debris on the road
- repairs to seal
- edge breaks
- maintenance
- monitoring of slips
- repairs to service lanes
Use this request type for urgent land slips, floods, or fallen trees that are blocking the road or creating a safety hazard.

Urban drainage issues include:
- culverts
- surface water
- manhole lids
Rural drainage issues include:
- water tables
- culverts
Use this request type if there is a:
- footpath fault
- you want to request a new footpath
- footpath hazard that might be a risk to public safety (slips or trips)
- vegetation that is blocking a footpath
Use this request type for:
- mowing and spraying
- removal of weeds
- trees overhanging roads

State highways in the Far North District are monitored and fixed by the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) instead of the Far North District Council. We can send a request on your behalf.

If you see a cycleway issue use the link below. Note that this only applies to cycleways on public roads and should not be used for off-road cycle trails.
If you see a dead animal on a rural road use the link below.
You can make a request for a new safety work which includes:
- new speed bumps
- traffic calming features
- new road marking or lines
- a review of the speed limit for a road
- new signs
Report issues with road or street lighting. If the light is on a State Highway, please use the State Highway request.
