Māori Comic Relief fundraising for cyclone affected Ngāpuhi

A stand-up show featuring an all Māori comic line up is raising money this Saturday in Auckland for iwi in the areas worst affected by Cyclone Gabrielle. Help spread the word for this 'funny as' kaupapa.

Hang onto your pōtae, a lineup of Māori comedy talent is raising funds this weekend in Auckland for whānau affected by Cyclone Gabrielle with ticket proceeds going to three iwi, including Ngāpuhi.

Promoters are billing the show on Saturday 1 April at 7.30pm as the first ever line up of all Māori stand-up comics. The Māori-focused project will split ticket profits to iwi in the worst cyclone affected areas - Ngāti Kahungunu, Ngāti Porou, and Ngāpuhi.

The ‘funny as’ fundraiser will see Kura Forrester (Shortland Street, Taskmasters NZ, The Educators) take to the stand-up stage, along with a ‘hot collective’ of Māori comedy talent from across the motu.

The show is being held at Te Pou Theatre in Henderson, Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland. Ticket prices start at $28 and the event is R16. Follow this link to find out more about Māori Comic Relief (tepoutheatre.nz).

Proceeds will be donated by show organisers to the Cyclone Gabrielle Mayoral Relief Fund set up by Kahika (Mayor) Moko Tepania and distributed to Ngāpuhi charities. More information about the fund can be found at Cyclone Gabrielle relief funding.
