Public toilets reopen after essential repairs
Public toilets at Marino Place in Kaikohe have reopened, featuring new fixtures designed to minimise the sort of damage that forced the facility’s closure in January.
An act of senseless vandalism left the toilets unusable, with broken ceramic wash basins and toilet bowls scattered across the floor. However, extensive repairs have been completed, including new stainless-steel fixtures that are much harder to damage.
Deputy Mayor – Kohepū Chicky Rudkin says, “The loss of this toilet block was more than an inconvenience. Our people deserve reliable, clean facilities. This is a critical investment in a more welcoming town centre, which allows individuals, families and visitors to stop, stay longer and support local businesses.”
“Vandalism affects all of us, but the repairs are designed to increase the likelihood that it remains open for our community.”
