Roads just got a ‘hole’ lot better
Far North District Council contractors are proving to be smooth operators, repairing more than 2700 potholes on both sealed and unsealed roads in March.
Fulton Hogan tackled potholes on 44 separate roads in the north of the district, filling in a total of 2046 holes. In the south, Ventia repaired 668 potholes. Across both areas, a total of 371km of roads were also graded during March.
We are at the end of the rehabilitation and reseal season and both contractors have made great progress. Fulton Hogan has three reseal works left, around 8.8km, which were delayed due to the recent weather event. Ventia had one site remaining, which was also delayed by the weather event and was rescheduled.
Drainage work across the district was in the pipeline during March, with the clearing of culverts, the development of new culverts, and the replacement of culvert pipes. Fulton Hogan cleared 180 cesspits, replaced 169m of culvert pipes, cleared 70 culvert ends, and replaced 59 culvert markers. About 3km of surface water channels were also cleared during March.
Ventia replaced more than 137km of culvert pipes, cleared 8.3km of surface water channels, built and 17 new culverts on 12 roads. The inlets and outlets of 79 culverts were cleared and two culverts were flushed.
All drainage work by the council’s contractors goes towards improving the network resilience around the Far North, assisting with slip prevention, and reducing the impacts of severe weather events.
