Sharpen your pencils for the writers’ festival

Book clubbers and fans of poetry, true crime, romcom and many more genres will be sharpening their pencils to choose from a range of events at the Northland Writers, Readers and Poets Festival running for three days from Friday (29 August).

Guests include Dame Fiona Kidman, Dr Monty Soutar ONZM, writing experts, local authors and a huge range of panellists, who are set to shine in the festival lineup. A 'From inside the stacks' panel will feature our very own library staff discussing what's trending, cool library resources available, and all things books and libraries.

The festival will open at 1pm on Friday with Short Story Awards.

Workshops designed for aspiring authors and avid readers include how to get published, exposure on social media, flash fiction and historical fiction.

Events on Sunday are dedicated to poetry with an open mic session, poetry workshop and presentations by well-known poets running until 3.30pm.

Friday and Saturday’s events are at the Cornerstone Church, while the Sunday poetry sessions will be at Kingston House, 123 Hone Heke Road, Kerikeri.

Check out the schedule for a full rundown of all the great talks on offer.

Get your tickets from Northland Writers, Readers and Poets Festival website.
