Fast-track your approval with ‘adaptive consenting’

Looking for planning approval? The process just got easier with the council’s new Te Ara Rau - Adaptive Consenting programme.

Instead of applying the full statutory process equally to every application, adaptive consenting introduces a proportionate approach. That means applications can move forward more quickly where applicants have engaged early with planners and have lodged well-prepared proposals.

The aim is to reduce what can take up to a maximum of 20 days for a consent to be issued (assuming all required information is supplied) to as few as two days.

By working closely with applicants at the start of the process, planners can identify and resolve issues early. This greatly reduces the need for back-and-forth communication and enables decisions to be made more quickly. Applicants benefit from faster answers while council staff can use their time more effectively, issuing more consents more quickly.

The process is currently in its pilot phase and will continue to evolve through customer feedback and experience. For those who require more assistance in the consenting process, the standard resource consent process will still be available alongside the pilot programme.

Anyone interested in exploring adaptive consenting can find out more on our webpage here. It contains detailed information, including guidance on eligibility and how to get started.
