AS OF 27 JULY 2022 AT 12.20PM

Kohumaru Road is the only remaining road closure in the Far North following the recent severe weather event. Council contractors are continuing to work towards fully opening the road later today.

Slips and fallen trees have increased the number of roads impacted the recent severe weather to 20 as of 4pm today. A full list of Far North district roads still affected by the severe weather is below.

With a break in the rain, our contractors are busy getting roads fully reopened and are assessing damage, especially where there are slips.

AS OF 25 JULY 2022 AT 4PM

Eighteen district roads have been impacted by heavy rains and strong winds that have lashed Northland throughout the day. At 4pm four roads remained closed in the Far North while another 10 are reduced to one lane or are passable with caution. Fallen trees have accounted for most of the closures, although six roads have been affected by slips, which can take days or weeks to repair. A list of roads impacted by the severe weather is below.

 Five district roads have been impacted by severe weather in the Far North today, two of which remain closed to traffic. The most severely affected is Kohumaru Road, which has been closed by a slip onto the road. The slip is close to Kohumaru south of Mangonui. The slip may take up to 24 hours to clear. Contractors should have at least one open on all other roads within hours.

Mangatoetoe Road is closed due to a fallen tree. Contractors are now on site working to clear road.

We also have unconfirmed reports of slips and flooding on the following routes. We will provide updates on these as soon as possible.

  • Two slips on Puketona Road (SH11) between Haruru and Paihia and the road is down to one lane
  • Surface flooding on Old Bay Road
  • Flooding on Omaunu Road in Kāeo and on SH10 near the BP
  • Flooding on Oruru Road.
