Bay of Islands-Whangaroa groups celebrate funding

Eight community groups will be celebrating after the Bay of Islands-Whangaroa Community Board granted them a share of $35,000 in funding during its 26 October meeting.

Eight community groups will be celebrating after the Bay of Islands-Whangaroa Community Board granted them a share of $35,000 in funding during its 26 October meeting.

Bay of Islands Budgeting and Community Services Trust was granted $7,000. The trust is committed to helping others to help themselves and look for every opportunity to awhi whānau and hapori (community) and strengthen family wellbeing.  The funding will go towards a youth space equipped with technical equipment needed to inspire, encourage, and empower youth, and to support educational, training/study or employment pathways.

Cruz’n the Bayz was granted $5,000 towards the 2024 Cruz’n the Bayz, which takes place between 7-10 March 2024. It will be the second time the classic car and bike event is being held, following the successful inaugural event earlier this year.

Other community groups to receive funding for events are:

  • $5,000 to Kawakawa Business and Community Association for the Christmas Festival
  • $5,000 to Te Puna Aroha Putea Whakapapa for the Christmas Festival
  • $5,000 to Our Kerikeri for the Christmas festival
  • $3,500 to Te Kura o Hato Hohepa Te Kamura for the Whangaroa Arts Festival
  • $2,500 to Bay of Islands Country Rock Festival for the 2024 Country Rock Festival towards the cost for the bus
  • $2,500 to Bay of Islands Jazz and Blues Festival for 2024 Jazz and Blues Festival bus costs

The next Bay of Islands-Whangaroa Community Board meeting will be held on Thursday 23 November at the Turner Centre. It can be watched live on Facebook and YouTube from 10am.
