Slip investigation to temporarily close part of Duncan Road
Residents and road users are advised that a section of Duncan Road in Fairburn will be closed during the day next week on Monday and Tuesday 4 - 5 May, so that slip damage can be investigated.
This is approximately 400m north of Dawson Access Road, and before the Taumata/Pekerau intersection. This stretch of road is sparsely populated but is used to link Duncan Road in Kaingaroa on SH10 to Fairburn on SH1.
Traffic management plans will be in place, and detours will be clearly marked to guide motorists around the site. The detour around the work happening on Duncan Road is SH10 Kaingaroa or Fairburn Road.
The road will be closed during the quietest time of the day 8.30am-3pm to minimise disruption to travellers. This will be after morning school buses have passed and before afternoon school bus drop-offs. For the remainder of next week, there will be stop/go traffic management along the affected stretch of road.
The works are being undertaken to assess the condition and extent of slip damage and to determine the best repair options. Undertaking a thorough engineering investigation will be critical in ensuring the long-term safety and integrity of the road corridor.
Residents will be receiving a letter today informing them of the work. Residents within the closure area will still be able to access their properties. Road users are encouraged to plan ahead using SH10 as an alternative, allow extra travel time, and follow all signage and instructions from onsite staff.
