Conserve water - Ōpononi and Ōmāpere
Ōpononi and Ōmāpere residents are being asked to immediately conserve water while a major break in the water main is repaired.
The situation has become critical with two storage reservoirs supplying the Ōpononi-Ōmāpere community now seriously depleted. These are currently sitting at 34 per cent and 18 per cent full and there is a danger they may empty completely if current consumption continues.
The outage has occurred due to ground movement following recent wet weather breaking the main supplying raw water to the treatment plant. One failure was repaired yesterday, but a second break has since occurred. This has been located and will be repaired today by 1pm.
As a precaution, a water tanker will be available today outside the Ōpononi Four Square. Water pressure will drop as reservoirs deplete meaning some elevated customers could lose supplies.
