Procter library has had a significant refresh with new modern features, including a reimagined children’s space, teen area, new shelving throughout, improved study spaces, quiet areas, bookable study room, reimagined magazines layout, hangout area, and a new makerspace area. The lift has also been rebuilt, to enable easy customer access between the library floors.
The upgrades are part of Far North District Council’s Future Libraries strategy that focuses on showcasing different digital technologies and capabilities within its library services.
The makerspace in Procter Library includes a 3-D printer, a Cricut, VR headsets and other robotics kit, sewing machines, creative software on Mac computers, a badge maker, lots of art and craft supplies, and will also grow to include a recording/podcasting space.
The customer self-services checkout machines that have been in place at all libraries for six months, sees customers enjoying additional freedoms during their visits. The technology enables library users to check out their own books, magazines, and other library materials, as well as renew books and check account details.
Toi boxes, a range of different digital and STEAM resources that patrons can borrow for up to two weeks, including digital and robotics kit, also recently launched. The kits come with VR sets, sphero, electrical circuits, and tumble trax.
The word Toi means ‘knowledge’ and Council wants to play a part in expanding knowledge of the digital world within our communities through modern Library services and offerings.
Library visitors are now able to see, hear, and experience more of what we have to offer.
You can find more details on their Facebook page.
