Animal management survey now open
Far North District Council is asking people across the Far North to share their thoughts on how dogs and other animals are managed in our communities.

Far North District Council is asking people across the Far North to share their thoughts on how dogs and other animals are managed in our communities.
Public satisfaction with animal management services, measured through the council’s annual Residents’ Survey, was 35 per cent in 2022 before dropping sharply to just 16 per cent in 2024. Progress has been made with satisfaction increasing to 28 per cent in 2025. However, there is still plenty of room for improvement. The council’s yearly external service review has also identified areas where animal management could be strengthened, including better community engagement, more education initiatives, and how roaming dogs are responded to.
Residents are encouraged to complete a short online survey, which asks about dog registration, roaming dogs, education, and ideas for improving animal management. Your feedback will help guide the council’s animal management team as they work on improvements and ensure that the services provided better reflect community needs.
“Listening to our communities is essential. The feedback we receive will help us focus on the areas that matter most to residents and ensure our animal management services continue to improve,” says Ruben Garcia, Group Manager – Delivery and Operations.
Visit our consultation webpage to learn more and complete the online survey. Make sure to have your say before submissions close on Sunday 14 September.
You can also visit any of our service centres and ask our friendly staff to print a hard copy survey for you.
Please note: Facebook comments are not counted as formal feedback. It is very important to fill in the online submission form so your views are included.
