We maintain a range of facilities for Far North residents and visitors, including playgrounds, sports fields, swimming pools, walkways and reserves. We also own and maintain toilets, wharves and pontoons, cemeteries, libraries, community halls and housing for the elderly.

VIDEO - Celebrating the 190th anniversary of He Whakaputanga

Today (28 October 2025) marks the 190th anniversary of He Whakaputanga - The Declaration of Independence signed by rangatira on behalf of iwi in the Far North. Rāniera Kaio from Te Rūnanga o Whaingaroa explains why He Whakaputanga played such a key role in the early relationship with the British, and why the document remains so relevant to Far North iwi.
