Conserve water alert issued to Rāwene

Rāwene residents and businesses are being asked to immediately reduce water consumption while contractors work to repair a major break in a mains water pipe.

The break, which occurred this morning, has seen storage levels in the Rāwene reservoir plummet to less than 15 per cent. All customers connected to the council’s Ōmanaia–Rāwene water supply are now being asked to reduce consumption immediately or risk the town’s reservoir and taps running dry.

The Hokianga Health hospital has not been affected by the mains break.

Contactors are now isolating the mains break, which will cut water supplies to some residents for at least four hours while repairs are made.

A water tanker is due to arrive at Russell Esplanade at 1.30pm and will provide free, treated water to anyone who requires it immediately. It will remain in place until 6pm or when water supplies are restored. Please bring your own clean containers to be filled.

The break in the water main was caused by a section of Parnell Street slumping at the intersection with Mariner Street.

A text alert will be sent to all mobile phones within the Ōmanaia–Rāwene water supply area detailing the water supply situation.

Customers are being asked to conserve water for at least 24 hours while the reservoir is recharged.
