Diversion for Kerikeri walking track

A diversion is expected to be in place on Tuesday afternoon (7 April) for part of Te Tahawai Track in Kerikeri which will be closed for several months to allow for construction of the unformed section of Mill Lane through to Hall Road.

Following collaborative discussions between Bay of Islands-Whangaroa Community Board members, Friends of Wairoa Stream and the project managers of the residential development to the north of this section of road, a temporary diversion route will be established.

Te Tahawai track is one of a network of popular paths that link rivers and waterfalls in the Kerikeri area that are well used by the Kerikeri community.

A 350-metre section of track between Sammaree Place and Mill Lane (highlighted on the map in yellow) will become a dead end when the unformed road between Mill Lane and Hall Road is closed for construction.

A diversion route from Hall Road to Mill Lane through roads and reserves and including a safe route through the edge of the development site is shown on the map in blue.  When construction works within the unformed section of Mill Lane are complete, a path through this area will be reopened, although temporary diversions may apply.

Updates will be provided on the status of the track and any diversions, and signs will be erected in the area advising the public of this temporary closure which is expected to last until December.
