Disruptions reduced for Taipa boat ramp repairs
The Taipa boat ramp and jetty will close on Thursday 26 February, while a team from Far North Holdings Ltd - the commercial arm of Far North District Council - carries out work to keep it safe.
Team members have planned carefully to reduce disruptions while they spend that day replacing two piles at the end of the jetty. The closure will last from 7am to 7pm, when they will also carry out regular maintenance on the aluminium gangway.
Tackling both tasks on the same day will prevent further closures in future, and the team will use land-based equipment instead of working from a barge, which is more susceptible to tidal and weather interruptions. Up until now, they have been able to avoid closing the ramp during the area’s busiest summer weeks, thanks to regular safety checks.
On the day, nearby ramps at Hihi Beach and Mill Bay will remain open to the public, and you can find their location using our interactive map here.
We will publish updates ahead of the day on our website if bad weather leads to any delays.
