The grounds at Kaitāia Airport were blessed earlier this week ahead of the beginning of upgrade work funded by Te Arawhiti and Far North District Council.
Meeting in Kaitāia, the partners agreed to convene a monthly “Partnership Team” hui where design details, procurement steps and operational issues can be worked through face-to-face before they reach the wider stakeholder community.
The kaupapa to future-proof Kaitāia Airport has taken several important steps forward, beginning with the formation of an Advisory Group that will give iwi/hapu, community users and elected members a formal voice as the project unfolds.
The long-term future of Kaitāia’s airport was secured today (13 December) with the signing of a Crown transfer of land to iwi and hapū, confirming a 35-year lease of the airport and the release a multi-million-dollar funding package for vital maintenance and upgrades.
