VIDEO – What is adaptation?

What matters most to us in a changing climate and how do we make sure the people and places we love thrive in the future?

These are the questions put forward to communities across Te Hiku o te Ika, the Far North, by the newly launched Te Hōtaka Urutau Hapori - The Community Adaptation Programme.

The programme invites Far Northerners to:

  • reflect on the impacts of major weather events and long-term changes to weather patterns
  • consider changes and make, sometimes difficult, decisions so that future generations may also enjoy the places we love, with the people they love.

In this first video of a three-part series, Kahika Moko Tepania, breaks down what adaptation means - and why it’s important to the council and the communities we serve.
