Haruru Falls Road works close ‘back access’ to Waitangi
Significant drainage and stabilisation works will close parts of Haruru Falls Road and start today (Monday 13 October).
Haruru Falls Road is located on the way to Paihia from Puketona Roundabout, it leads to the local waterfall and is a left turn off from State Highway 11. The road travels around the back of Haruru, connecting with Tau Henare Drive.
Works include water tabling and culvert replacement, installing concrete dish channels, bank retreats and using mesh baskets for stabilising. Road widening is also part of the works, with new aggregate being laid for shape correction and strengthening the roadway.
The road closure begins just beyond Tui Glen Road and runs to just before Bayly Road, which leads to Waitangi Mountain Bike Park.
Temporary traffic management is in place and the road will remain open to residents. Council contractors will contact residents individually where works may directly affect access to properties.
Motorists wanting to access the bike park, Waitangi Golf Course, Waitangi Treaty Grounds or other key sites north of Waitangi Bridge are encouraged to take the main route from Paihia along Te Karuwhā Parade, rather than using the ‘back route’ of Haruru Falls Road.
Work is expected to be completed by mid-December.
