Fairy Pools access closure extended for public safety
A temporary closure of access to Fairy Pools Reserve in Kerikeri has been extended.
The only formal access route into Fairy Pools Reserve sits within privately owned land that is now being developed making access to the reserve unsafe for public use.
Heavy machinery, tree felling, bush clearance, and landscaping earthworks in and around the accessway make public entry unsafe. To ensure public safety during the ongoing works, a full closure of the access to the reserve is required as site conditions can change rapidly throughout the day.
A temporary closure of the accessway was first announced in November 2024, and was anticipated to last four months. However, the developer’s work programme has expanded and as a result, the reserve accessway will remain closed.
The closure is enacted under section 53 of the Reserves Act 1977. Signs alerting the public of the closure have been updated and installed at the start of the accessway where a concrete road meets metal surface.
The extended closure, to protect both workers and the public, will remain until all major development works have been completed and safe access can be ensured resumed.
