Hokianga water restrictions reduced to Level 1
Water restrictions for the Ōpononi-Ōmāpere and Ōmanaia-Rāwene communities have today (Tuesday 7 April) reduced to Level 1, marking the end of all remaining restrictions across the Far North.
A wetter than usual summer, including several storm events, combined with steady rainfall in recent weeks has improved river flows and replenished storage levels across the district. Lower water use has also helped ease demand on treatment plants, supporting a quicker recovery than seen in previous years.
At Level 1, residents and visitors are asked to use water wisely, with no limits on outdoor use such as sprinklers and hoses.
Roadside ‘Tiaki ngā wai – Save water now’ signs will begin to be removed from Hokianga communities over the coming days.
Elsewhere in the district, Kaitāia, Kaikohe, Kawakawa–Moerewa, Kerikeri-Waipapa and Ōkaihau are already operating under Level 1.
Water supplies will continue to be monitored, and the council will provide updates if conditions change.
A big mihi/thank you to residents and businesses who helped use water wisely over the summer months.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to keep reporting leaks by calling 0800 920 029.
