Closure of Kaitāia Memorial Pool

Kaitāia residents looking forward some pool time this summer will be eagerly anticipating the opening of Te Hiku sports hub after Kaitāia Memorial Pool was closed earlier this year.

Kaitāia residents looking forward to some time by the pool this summer will be eagerly anticipating the opening of Te Hiku sports hub after Kaitāia Memorial Pool was closed earlier this year.

Kaitāia Memorial Pool was built in 1947 and was centrally located on Bank Street. The 33m pool had six lanes, a dive pool and a toddler’s pool.

However, Te Hiku residents will soon be enjoying a brand-new indoor pool complex with Te Hiku Sports Hub due to open in the next couple of months. The facility will include a kids splash area, hydrotherapy pool, learn to swim pool and an eight-lane swimming pool.

Once completed, Te Hiku Sports Hub will provide sports clubrooms, a gym, and revamped grounds for year-round multi use sports fields. A fitness track around the perimeter that links to Te Ahu centre is complete and has already proved very popular with residents. This area also includes outdoor fitness equipment, lighting, and cricket nets. Existing netball courts on the site have also been recently upgraded.

The council is a significant stakeholder in the community-led project, which promises to be transformational for Kaitāia when completed at the end of the year.

Follow updates and read more about the Te Hiku Sports Hub on Facebook.
