About the water supply
The Council sources water for its Kawakawa-Moerewa water supply from bores fed by Tirohanga Stream.
Supply improvements
The Council is undertaking research on how closely bore water levels are connected to flows in Tirohanga Stream. We suspect that bore water levels may not follow flow levels in the stream as closely as previously thought. If that is the case, we may apply to adjust our consent with NRC so that the Council can continue to take groundwater for Kawakawa and Moerewa customers even when flows in the Tirohanga are lower.
