We maintain a range of facilities for Far North residents and visitors, including playgrounds, sports fields, swimming pools, walkways and reserves. We also own and maintain toilets, wharves and pontoons, cemeteries, libraries, community halls and housing for the elderly.

VIDEO - What's happening on The Strand?

Since December 2024, the council have been running a traffic trial on The Strand – the waterfront road in the heart of Kororāreka-Russell. The trial is testing a new way of managing vehicle access to help make the area safer, less congested, and more enjoyable for everyone. We’ve been talking to locals and visitors about the trial — what they think of the changes and what they’d like to see happen next.
