We maintain a range of facilities for Far North residents and visitors, including playgrounds, sports fields, swimming pools, walkways and reserves. We also own and maintain toilets, wharves and pontoons, cemeteries, libraries, community halls and housing for the elderly.

Aaron Taikato

Group Manager - Te Hono

Aaron Taikato is the Manuhautū Te Hono (Group Manager, Te Hono) at Far North District Council, where he provides strategic leadership across Māori development, engagement, and partnership functions.

He leads Te Hono, the Council’s Māori Services unit, supporting the organisation to give effect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi obligations and strengthening relationships with iwi, hapū, and marae across Te Tai Tokerau.

Aaron brings extensive senior leadership experience across central and local government. He previously held the role of Director Strategy and Policy at Te Papa Atawhai (Department of Conservation), and more recently served as a Group Manager Strategy and Democracy in local government.

His experience spans governance, strategy, and policy, with a strong focus on embedding Te Ao Māori perspectives into organisational decision-making. Aaron works closely with elected members, senior leaders, and tangata whenua to deliver outcomes that reflect the aspirations of the communities served.
