Overview

Both the east and the west coasts of the Far North have vehicle and passengers ferries that form part of the District's transportation network.

  • The Hokianga ferry, between Rawene and Kohukohu, is operated on behalf of the Far North District Council by Broadspectrum.
  • Fullers GreatSights run a vehicle ferry between Opua and Okiato, and a passenger ferry between Paihia and Russell. There are two other operators who also run a passenger ferry between Paihia and Russell - Waitere (the blue ferry) and the Happy Ferry (white).
