Cass Street in Russell to close for Placemaking works
Cass Street in Kororāreka-Russell will close to vehicles from 9 to 13 November as work gets under way on the new Russell Placemaking project.
The works follow the council's approval of final roading designs for Cass Street and The Strand, shaped through extensive public consultation earlier this year.
The closure will run from York Street to The Strand, with a temporary detour in place set to direct traffic to enter The Strand via Kent Street and travel one-way through to Pitt Street.
A temporary loading zone will also be set up outside 19 York Street (where Bidfood trucks usually park) and a temporary drop-off zone for The Duke Hotel will be provided outside 25 York Street, where required.
Pedestrian access will remain on both sides of Cass Street, with emergency services provided full access throughout the closure.
Local businesses have been asked to let customers know about the change to traffic flow, particularly around The Duke, Seaside and Commodores.
Anyone who experiences issues during the closure is encouraged to get in touch with the council and updates will be published on the council website as more information becomes available.
Contingency dates of 16 to 20 November have been set aside pending the weather. To find out more about the project, visit: Community-shaped designs approved for Cass Street and The Strand | Far North District Council.
