Chance for junior sports teams to score funding

Financial support is available to help rural junior sports teams get on the road to success, with applications for the Winter Rural Travel Fund open until the end of this week (Friday 8 March).

Financial support is available to help rural junior sports teams get on the road to success, with applications for the Winter Rural Travel Fund open until the end of this week (Friday 8 March).

The fund subsidises travel for rural teams aged between five and 18, reducing cost as a barrier and making it easier for teams to compete in organised sporting events around the Far North District.

The fund covers travel to and from regular sporting events, competitions, and practices within the Far North. Teams can apply for up to half of their total travel costs for the upcoming season. Sport New Zealand provides half the funding.

The Far North’s three community boards will consider the applications during the April meetings.

The fund’s guidelines and application forms are available on the council website. For more information, applicants can contact a funding advisor directly on 09 401 5775 or email funding@fndc.govt.nz.
