Contractor to repair Kerikeri Rd

A Council contractor will undertake repairs to one of the district’s busiest local roads after the surface deteriorated significantly a year after being widened at the intersection at Kerikeri Road and Access Road.

A Council contractor will undertake repairs to one of the district’s busiest local roads after the surface deteriorated significantly a year after being widened at the intersection at Kerikeri Road and Access Road.

The remedial work is due to begin in early November and will take approximately two weeks to complete.

General Manager – Infrastructure and Asset Management, Andy Finch, says a 120m section of Kerikeri Road just before Access Road does not meet the standards expected by the Council or ratepayers.

He says the contractor will repair the section of road at no extra cost to ratepayers. The work will include removing the existing road seal and rebuilding a more resilient road foundation, resealing the road and then applying new markings.

To ensure that both lanes of Kerikeri Road remain open during the work, the pedestrian refuge island on Kerikeri Road will be removed. This will be reinstated once the work is completed and the road resealed.

Mr Finch says that while it is disappointing the work needs to be revisited, he thanks the contractor for working quickly and constructively with the Council to come up with a repair plan.

“In the meantime, I ask that motorists to drive with extra care along this in section of Kerikeri Road.”
