Dog registration winners named

Ten dog owners from around the district have won a promotion prize pack. The incentive ran over two months and has helped Far North dog registration numbers almost equal the total number of dogs registered for the whole of last year.

Winners of 10 Far North dog registration promotion prizes have been named from across the district.

Dog owners who registered their pet while the best rates were available from 1 July to 31 August, went into a draw to win a prize of a refund on their dog registration fees for the year plus some dog biscuits (only one dog registration was free per winner).

Ten dog owners, drawn at random, from around the district have benefitted from the incentive introduced this year. Only a few owners are yet to claim their prize.

The whole community has benefitted from the incentive which has resulted in an increase in dog registration numbers - 7032 dogs were registered within the two-month promotion period. This is very close to the total number of dogs registered for the whole of last year, which was 8211 dogs. Dog owners are legally required to register their dogs for the year, but the fees are higher from 1 September to 30 June 2024. Dogs must be registered from three months of age, or as soon as they come into the owner’s possession.

The community benefits from an increase in dog registrations because it supports the work of Animal Management Officers who promote responsible dog ownership. A key part of responsible dog ownership is to keep dogs under control at all times to prevent situations where they could frighten or injure people or other dogs and animals.

The dogs who will be treated to free biscuits, thanks to their owners, are:

  • Pearl in Ōhaeawai
  • Dung dung on Kaikohe
  • Indy in Karikari Peninsula
  • Patrick in Kaitāia
  • Mona in Peria
  • Honey in Kerikeri
  • Luna in Taipā
  • Harry in Waipapakauri
  • Ragna in Kerikeri
  • Lucy in Kāeo.
