Far North Libraries pulling in the crowds

In just one month more than 43,000 people have visited our six Far North Libraries, that’s a 25 per cent increase for foot traffic in March compared to February.

In just one month more than 43,000 people have visited our six Far North Libraries, that’s a 25 per cent increase for foot traffic in March compared to February.

Library staff say the increase over the last month is due to our libraries increasing the focus on fun activities for the whole family, including arts and crafts, robot coding and creation, Minecraft (building worlds and completing challenges) Lego creation, story times and more.

During March library staff ran 214 programmes with a total of 1430 attendees across all six of our libraries. This was up from 118 programmes on offer in February that saw a total of 791 attendees.

Another service important to library users is the mobile library. The roving ‘library in a van’ service has again hit the road after temporary break and will be visiting many of our more remote communities soon. Regular visits by the mobile library are planned for:

  • Te Hiku the first week of every month - visiting Karikari, Pukenui, Herekino, Broadwood, Te Hapua, Te Kao, and Taupo Bay.
  • Ōpononi, Waimamaku, and Taheke - every third Tuesday of the month.

The mobile library offers library members a selection of books, magazines, DVDs, and talking books to borrow and also takes returned items. The onboard collection is refreshed regularly, but members can also request items from our friendly mobile librarian.

You can view the mobile library timetable on our website or follow the service on Facebook.
