Getting from A to B in the Far North without a car can be a challenge but that’s what residents are being encouraged to do on Thursday 22 September to help mark World Car Free Day.
Getting from A to B in the Far North without a car can be a challenge, but residents are being encouraged to do just that on Thursday 22 September to help mark World Car Free Day.
World Car Free Day is a movement that began in 2000, after decades of action by different organisations internationally. The aim is to encourage communities to consider ways of getting from A to B without using cars, where possible.
To help Far North residents achieve that goal, all journeys on BusLink buses will be free all day Thursday. That means residents can ditch their cars and hop on free BusLink buses serving:
- Mid-North (Kaikohe, Ōkaihau, Kerikeri, Waipapa, Ōhaeawai, Kawakawa, Paihia and Waitangi)
- Hokianga (Ōmāpere, Rāwene, Kaikohe)
- Far North (Ahipara, East Coast and Pukenui).
For shorter journeys, residents are being encouraged to consider walking or cycling on World Car Free Day to improve fitness and wellbeing. Where longer journeys are unavoidable, travelling for free on a BusLink bus will still help cut greenhouse gas emissions, reduce traffic noise and save on fuel bills.
For details on bus timetables, go to the BusLink webpage.
Remember, government measures to reduce the impact of cost of living expenses have been extended, so BusLink fares will be half price until 31 January 2023.
