Rural junior sports teams can now apply for financial support to help them compete around the district.

Applications for the Summer Rural Travel Fund are open until Friday 22 September, with community boards considering applications in October.

The Rural Travel Fund subsidises travel for rural teams aged between 5 and 18 to make it easier to compete in organised sporting events by reducing cost as a barrier.

The fund covers travel to and from regular sporting events, including competitions and practices within the Far North District. Teams can apply for up to half of their total travel costs for the upcoming season. Sport New Zealand provides half the funding.
