Funding granted for events in the new year

Two community groups are celebrating after the Bay of Islands-Whangaroa Community Board granted them a share of almost $10,000 in funding during its December meeting.

Two community groups are celebrating after the Bay of Islands-Whangaroa Community Board granted them a share of almost $10,000 in funding during its December meeting.

A total of $3,347 will go towards the annual Vert Jam event to be held from 8-9 February. David Crabb, a former pro skater, is the organiser of the free event, which includes workshops for students.

Ōkaihau College was granted $6,647 for the costs towards hosting Te Tai Tokerau Festival in April 2024. This festival, which will run over two days, will be host approximately 30 Kura (school), with at least five from the Bay of Islands/Whangaroa.  Local community groups will be invited to join the event by setting up kai stalls.

The next Bay of Islands-Whangaroa Community Board meeting will be held on Friday 16 February 2024 at the Turner Centre. It can be watched live on Facebook and YouTube from 10am.
