We maintain a range of facilities for Far North residents and visitors, including playgrounds, sports fields, swimming pools, walkways and reserves. We also own and maintain toilets, wharves and pontoons, cemeteries, libraries, community halls and housing for the elderly.

Improving our footpath network

Footpaths are a vital part of our district’s transport infrastructure. They connect communities, provide opportunities for recreation and support the mobility needs of our youngest and oldest citizens.The Council maintains about 200 kms of footpath across the district and builds news footpaths each year under a works programme approved by the three Community Boards.

Footpaths are a vital part of our district’s transport infrastructure. They connect communities, provide opportunities for recreation and support the mobility needs of our youngest and oldest citizens.

The Council maintains about 200 kms of footpath across the district and builds news footpaths each year under a works programme approved by the three Community Boards. We aim to complete more than 7 km of new footpaths in the district in 2020/21.

We are funding 14 new footpaths totalling 4.9 km from rates and seven new footpaths totalling 2.2 km in length under a Government-funded redeployment programme established to help workers made unemployed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
