More dogs registered while best rates available

More Far North dog owners are registering their dogs while the best rates are available between 1 July and 31 August and to take advantage of a prize incentive on offer this year. With just over a week to go until the reduced fee period is over, dog owners who are yet to register their dogs are urged to do so by Thursday 31 August to go into a draw to win a refund on this year’s dog registration fee plus a bag of dog biscuits. There are 10 prize packs to be won.*

Already this year 650 more dog owners have registered their dogs than at the same time last year (as of Monday 21 August). The number of dogs registered in the last eight weeks is within barking distance of the total number of dogs registered for the whole of last year. So far 5637 dogs have been registered since 1 July compared to a total of 8211 dogs registered for the 12 months of last year.

Animal Management Officers have been working in the community to raise awareness of this year’s dog registration campaign and to promote responsible dog ownership – which includes keeping your dog under control at all times to prevent situations where they could frighten or injure people or other dogs.

Dog owners are legally required to register their dogs for the year, but the fees will be higher between 1 September and 30 June 2024. Dogs must be registered from three months of age, or as soon as they come into your possession.
